Dr Dre album springs a leak but raises hope
DJ Envy of NY hip-hop station Hot97 was the first to play the freshly leaked Dr. Dre track ”Topless” yesterday, presumably from his long-boiling comeback album Detox. There’s no guarantee that this version will end up on the album, which is increasingly being referred to as the Chinese Democracy of hip-hop- especially because, sick as it is, it’s clearly unfinished- and Dre’s known for scrapping projects that get exposed before they’re done cooking.“Topless” features guest spots by Nas and T.I., the latter of which reportedly spent time in the studio with the good Dr. during Grammy weekend. The beat is one of the best things Dre’s done in years- boom-bap drums and dirty piano tinkering replace the synth melodrama that saturates most post-2001 Dre productions.

T.I. opens the flow with a buttery, airtight rhyme that, despite arguments to the contrary, was clearly meant to be spat by Dre:

It’s the D.R. / Tired of savin’ artists out the ER / Bring ‘em back to life, beats like CPR / Made the West side worldwide, no PR / Gangsta-rap god, I’m the end all, be all / California love from the Bloods to the C-Dogs …and so on.

Doesn’t sound much like a guy under 30 from the East side who’s scared shitless about spending 30 years in jail, does it? What’s that? Need more proof? Let’s get indisputable:

Tees and black jeans, no bling just bang / Officially deranged, clinically insane / Look, Eazy, aint a damn thing change / I promise still lived like we did back when we straight out of Compton…. A decorated resume, a legendary legacy / All the awards that you’ll never be / What the fuck is y’all telling me? Forever on top / Face it, you’ll never be better than the Doc, ask Pac

Now, who between the two would invoke the name of Pac as a personal reference? It’s no secret that Dr. Dre hires the best guns in the game to script verses for him (that wasn’t coincidence that he flowed just like Eminem on Forgot About Dre), but it’s a bit hard to picture the track appearing on Detox now- at least with Dre’s vocals instead of T.I.’s.

Anyway, Nas follows up with a brutal verse that clearly wasn’t made for anyone but him, continuing his habit of outshining anyone he’s paired with on a track.

Finished or not, “Topless” is an exciting glimpse into what Detox may have to offer.

Kein Album ohne Nate Dogg

Detox? Mal ehrlich, wer glaubt noch daran, dass dieses Album jemals das Licht der Welt erblicken wird? Nachdem Dr. Dre seine neue Scheibe seit Jahren verschiebt und sie eigentlich definitiv in diesem Jahr erscheinen sollte, ist nun eine weitere Verschiebung möglich. Gerüchten zufolge will Dre 'Detox' nicht ohne Nate Dogg fertigstellen.

Der wiederum erlitt vor einigen Wochen einen Schlaganfall und befindet sich derzeit zwar auf dem Weg der Besserung, doch immer noch in Reha. Da man schlecht einschätzen kann, wie lange Nate braucht, um wieder auf die Beine zu kommen, sollten wir uns schon mal auf einen Veröffentlichungstermin im Jahre 2009 gefasst machen.

Hm... bleibt uns nur zu hoffen, dass Nate Dogg ein 'zäher Hund' ist. Wir wünschen gute Besserung.

Dr. Dre: Erste "Detox" Single mit Jay-Z?

Die Gerüchteküche brodelt, denn laut einem sehr bekannten Radiomoderator soll die erste "Detox" Single noch diese Woche erscheinen. Eminem kündigte ebenfalls an, dass wir Großes zu erwarten haben...

Der bekannte Radiomoderator Michael Yo, der unter anderem für E! News arbeitet und oft als Hollywood- und Musikexperte für CNN und FOX vor der Kamera steht, verkündete über seinen offiziellen Twitter Account, dass noch diese Woche die erste Single von Dr. Dres Detox erscheinen soll. Aber das ist noch nicht alles: Er nannte zwar noch nicht den Titel des Songs verriet aber, dass es sich um eine Kollaboration zwischen Dr. Dre und Jay-Z handeln soll:

"Look for it this week New Jay Z and Dr Dre!!!" so Michael Yo über Twitter.

Auch Eminem meldete sich kürzlich mit einem Statement zu Wort, welches die Spekulationen über die besagte Detox Single zusätzlich anheizte:

"Some big news is coming. Soon."

Ob dieses Statement tatsächlich auf Dr. Dres Single bezogen ist, steht noch in den Sternen. Möglicherweise könnte sich Eminems Aussage auch auf sein kommendes Album Relapse 2 beziehen.

Wir sind gespannt, halten die Augen auf und hoffen, dass Michael Yo Recht behält und wir uns diese Woche tatsächlich die erste Detox Single zu Ohren führen können.

Dr. Dre hat den Fans versprochen, dass er sein lang ersehntes Album "Detox" noch in diesem Jahr (10) veröffentlichen wird - mehr als ein Jahrzehnt nach seiner letzten Platte. Die Rap-Legende arbeitet seit Jahren mit Unterbrechungen an dem Nachfolger zu seinem 1999er Album "2001", enthüllte aber im Oktober vergangenen Jahres (09), dass er nicht zufrieden mit den Tracks ist und ins Studio zurückkehrt, um die Songs neu aufzunehmen. Vor kurzem sagte er dann, dass es unwahrscheinlich ist, dass das Projekt vor 2011 in die Läden kommen würde. Dr. Dre sagte der März-Ausgabe (10) der US-Zeitschrift "Slam": "Nun, ich arbeite daran ('Detox'), aber ich arbeite auch an Projekten anderer Leute; ihr werdet wahrscheinlich in einem Jahr oder so was hören." Nun hat der Hiphop-Star aber enthüllt, dass das Album fast fertig ist und die erste Single von der CD, die neu aufgenommene Jay-Z-Zusammenarbeit "Under Pressure", voraussichtlich noch in diesem Monat (April 10) veröffentlicht wird. Dr. Dre zu CNBC News: "Ja, hoffentlich werden wir ('Under Pressure') in den nächsten zwei Wochen oder so veröffentlichen. Und ich werde das Album definitiv dieses Jahr rausbringen. Endlich, und ich denke, alle werden happy damit sein. Das ist es im Moment. Ich versuche einfach, diese Platte zu beenden, sie endlich fertig zu machen, raus zu bringen und anzufangen, dafür zu werben."

Put this in the “rumors we hope are true” file. Dr. Dre might join Jay-Z during his Friday night set at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival.

Music journalists everywhere are speculating that the hip-hop artists will use the main stage to debut their new single,” Under Pressure,” a collaboration from Dre’s comeback album, “Detox.”
